The vision for TLC International School was the result of a recognized need for an affordable option to a quality, American style education delivered in English. TLC began as a privately owned school in September of 2006. At that time, the name was The Learning Center (TLC). As the school grew and expanded their services to include older students, the school changed the name to TLC International School. The first months of school began with 15 students from Preschool to Kindergarten. It was TLC’s goal to begin with young children who were not fluent in English and continue to add on additional grades as these children progressed and matured.
TLC continues to follow the established guideline focused on high academic standards. The school increased one or two grades each year until June of 2016, when they had their first high school graduate. French, Arabic, and Islamic Studies (optional for non-Mauritanians) classes were added to the American style curriculum as the need for a continuation of instruction in the students’ native language became identified.
In September 2011, TLC opened its doors in a brand new purpose built school. The new building was built specifically to meet the needs of Preschool through high school students. The facilities include 18 classrooms, a spacious library, cafeteria, reception, business office, and kitchen. The students have a large play area for recess as well as a soccer field for sports.
The student population has grown to approximately 200 students from a dozen countries. The academic staff now consists of approximately forty employees from fourteen countries around the world, making TLC a truly international community with 26 countries represented amongst both staff and students collectively. TLC International School is now a fully accredited school which continues to strive to offer the highest quality education at an affordable price for the students.
